In January 12, 2010, Haiti was hit by a 7.0 earthquake and left the country devastated. The earthquake destroyed thousands of schools, businesses, homes, and more leaving the country in pieces. Haiti already had a struggling economy, but the earthquake left over a million without a home or a job. With a recorded damage of almost $13 billion, the people of Haiti were living off of less than $2 a day. Any local businesses affected by the earthquake are most likely in ruin. The already scarce resources within the country are now either destroyed or being spread out even thinner among the people. Haiti is making a recovery with the support of the European Union donating over $40 million, rebuilding houses and hospitals, but the country is still in very grave shape.
